Vinita Shekar

RCS England Director for Scotland, SAS surgeon in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS), Ninewells Hospital, Dundee

Vinita Shekar is a Specialty Doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School in Dundee. She has been based in Scotland for over a decade, having previously spent over 15 years working in London and Portsmouth. She holds an LLM in Legal Aspects of Medical Practice, a PG Cert in Medical Education for Surgeons, and a PG Cert in Conscious Sedation.

Dr Shekar has held a wide range of leadership and advocacy roles, including Clinical Audit Lead, Clinical Governance Lead, and SAS Representative on the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

She has served the College for over six years, initially as a member, then as Chair of the SAS Forum, and later as an invited member of the College Council. She was part of the panel for the Kennedy Review, after which she became the Council Lead for the SAS Strategy, successfully launched on 4 July 2023. She is proud to be the first SAS surgeon appointed as a Regional Director. Her aim is to introduce new initiatives in Scotland to foster stronger engagement with members, Fellows, grassroots organisations, and international graduates.
