Tawakir Kamani
Paediatric ENT and Otology Consultant and East Midlands Regional Director, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust
I am an ENT consultant at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton, with a specialist interest in paediatric ENT and otology. My roles include Regional Director for Surgery (East Midlands) at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Guardian of Safe Working for the trust, and ENT Lead for my trust within the East Midlands Surgery for Children Network. I also serve as the wellbeing lead for ENT residents across the East Midlands.
My medical education and training have been internationally based. I graduated from Hacettepe University Medical School in Turkey, where I also completed a postgraduate degree in ENT. After moving to the UK, I undertook basic surgical training and then higher surgical training in ENT within the East Midlands Deanery. I went on to complete paediatric ENT fellowships at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. I later returned to the UK to take up a substantive consultant post at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
I maintain strong professional links with Turkey and am regularly invited to deliver lectures. Outside of work, I am a wife and mother, and I enjoy countryside walks, travelling and entertaining.
