Professor Ronan Cahill

Professor of Surgery and Director of the Centre of Precision Surgery, Director of the Digital Surgery Unit, University College Dublin, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital

Professor Ronan Cahill MD PhD FRCS is Professor of Surgery at University College Dublin (UCD) and the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH) in addition to Section and Subject Head for Surgery and Surgical Specialties in UCD and the Director of the Centre for Precision Surgery, UCD and the Digital Surgery Unit, MMUH. Ronan has authored over 300 peer reviewed publications, nine book chapters and four National Guidelines. He has been an editorial board member of five indexed surgical journals, including Colorectal Disease and the European Journal of Surgical Oncology. He is a recipient of the Freyer, Bennett and Millin Medals (RCSI Millin Lecturer 2010) and was the ASGBI Robert Smith Lecturer in 2014. His major academic interest is in Surgical Innovation (including intraoperative artificial intelligence) and New Technologies with active basic science, clinical and device development research partnerships both nationally and internationally including the performance of Phase 1, 2 and 3 trials aimed at advancing surgical practice. He has been clinical lead and principle investigator for major consortium awards in Ireland (DTIF) and Europe (both Horizon 2020 Horizon Europe). Ronan is a 2025 Fulbright Scholar and three term RCSI Council Member.
