
Reiko Ashida

Reiko Ashida is a Consultant Neurosurgeon and the Lead for Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery at North Bristol Trust.
Reiko’s subspeciality interests include Deep Brain Stimulation surgery for movement disorders along with robotic assisted surgeries. She also has an interest in resection of meningiomas, performing surgery to alleviate symptoms of Chiari malformation along with surgical interventions addressing acute and degenerative spinal pathologies.
Reiko undertook her Neurosurgery clinical training at centres in Manchester, Plymouth and Bristol. During her training, she completed an MD at the University of Bristol in mapping of the sensori-motor and higher order functions in the cerebellum. She completed the Royal College of Surgeons of England accredited Functional fellowship in Bristol and completed a clinical attachment with the Functional team at the Tokyo Women’s Medical University.
Reiko has an interest in Medical Education and Human Factors. She is the Education Lead for the Neurosurgical junior resident doctors. She is also the Lead Consultant for and supervises the Royal College of Surgeons accredited Functional Neurosurgery fellowship. She is also a member of the quality assurance panel for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Reiko has an interest in research and regularly collaborates on projects with University of Bristol academics. Reiko has an active involvement with the British Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery as the society’s treasurer.
