Naomi Slator

Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon , North Bristol NHS Trust and Sulis Hospital Bath

Miss Naomi Slator is a Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon at North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT), based at Southmead Hospital. She has a specialist interest in complex spine alongside cranial and spinal trauma. She completed her neurosurgical training in Birmingham, followed by fellowships in CSF and trauma (2019) and spinal surgery in Leeds (2020).

Naomi has published several journal articles and book chapters and regularly presents at specialist international conferences. She also contributes to pre-hospital care at sporting events and is actively involved in training. Outside of clinical practice, she maintains a longstanding interest in environmental conservation, including voluntary work in coral reef research since 2015, alongside international charity and expedition work.

Alongside her clinical work, Naomi has been instrumental in leading sustainability initiatives within the neurosurgery department at NBT. She co-led the Trust’s “green operating day,” working with colleagues including Megan Murphy (Sustainable Development Manager), demonstrating that meaningful reductions in surgical emissions can be achieved through practical changes to theatre practice.

The initiative achieved emission reductions of 33% to nearly 80% on the day and was recognised nationally, winning the “Towards Net Zero” category at the Health Service Journal Awards in November 2024. This work forms part of the Trust’s broader ambition to reach Net Zero Carbon by 2030.

Naomi has also contributed to advancing sustainable practice through publication, including “Green neurosurgery: a call to action,” helping to promote environmental responsibility across the specialty.
