Michael El Boghdady

South-London Deanery, Director of Education , Association of Surgeons in Training

Michael is a senior upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgery registrar in London and an honorary lecturer. He is the Director of Education for ASiT. Passionate about surgical education, he holds an MD in surgeons’ errors and laparoscopic training and multiple master’s degrees in teaching and higher education. He has led several national and international collaborative research projects and serves on the editorial boards of multiple peer-reviewed journals.

Michael has undertaken several national roles advocating for trainees, including positions on the Intercollegiate Committee for Basic Surgical Exams (ICBSE) and the Learning Committees of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He also served as Innovation Lead for the Basic Surgical Skills Steering Committee and has contributed to numerous initiatives aimed at improving the training environment and addressing poor workplace behaviours.

He has organised multiple national courses to help reduce the cost of surgical training and has published widely on surgeon wellbeing, surgical education, human error, and equality and diversity.
