Laura Hamilton

RCS England Council Member, Trauma & Orthopaedics Consultant

Ms Laura Hamilton was educated at Oxford University and St George’s before becoming an orthopaedic registrar on the London Training Rotation. She completed her training with an RCS England travelling fellowship to Hong Kong and gained a master’s degree in trauma and orthopaedics.

Laura is a Consultant Hand Surgeon at Brighton Major Trauma Centre, where she is Clinical Lead for Hands. She mentors surgeons across the UK and is a Personal Tutor at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. She has published and presented widely on improving culture in surgery, particularly orthopaedics.

She is the founder of the Women in Orthopaedics (W.ORTH) group and is an active member of several panels encouraging diversity in surgery. Laura sits on the T&O Selection Design Group, which runs national recruitment for ST3 orthopaedic surgeons.

Through her work on improving diversity, Laura was elected to the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, where she is Co‑Chair of the Future Surgeons Forum, supporting medical students nationally. She is Deputy Lead for the RCS England Working Party on Sexual Misconduct in Surgery and leads the development of mandatory training for all RCS England surgeons and staff.
