Josh Burke

NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer - Colorectal Surgery

Josh is an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Colorectal Surgery based in Manchester, with an interest in advanced colorectal cancer. He sits on the National Bowel Cancer Audit (NBOCA) Steering Group and holds a PhD from the University of Leeds, where he developed novel devices to detect anastomotic leaks, funded by Bowel Cancer UK. He also holds higher degrees in Health Research and Medical Education.

Josh chaired the Commission on the Future of Surgery’s ‘Technology Enhanced Surgical Training’ report and now serves as Director of Education at RCS England’s Innovation Hub. He is also a Lecturer in Innovation on the Surgical Education MSc at University College London.

Nationally, he contributes to the Robotics and Digital Surgery Committee at RCS England and is a Trustee for both CORESS (Patient Safety) and the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT).
