
Lord Ara Darzi
Member of the House of Lords, Co-Director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation, Imperial College London
Professor Lord Ara Darzi of Denham is Co-Director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London and holds the Paul Hamlyn Chair of Surgery. He serves as a Consultant Surgeon at Imperial College NHS Trust and the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
Professor Darzi is Executive Chair of the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) and the NHS Accelerated Access Collaborative. In his role as Executive Chair of The Fleming Centre Initiative, he spearheads The Fleming Initiative, leading a global movement to combat antimicrobial resistance.
He heads a diverse academic and policy research team, with over one thousand, five hundred peer-reviewed publications to his name. He recently led the Independent Review of the NHS, commissioned by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.
Professor Darzi was knighted in 2002 and introduced to the House of Lords in 2007 as Lord Darzi of Denham, where he served as Minister for Health. He was awarded the prestigious Order of Merit in 2016.
