Andreas Demetriades

Andreas Demetriades graduated from the University of Cambridge and completed his basic and higher surgical training in London. He went on to complete fellowships in skull base surgery in Tokyo and in complex spine surgery in Munich and Oxford. He is a consultant neurosurgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

He served as President of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) from 2021 to 2023. During this time, he initiated the formation of the EANS Global and Humanitarian Neurosurgery Committee, which now leads work in education, training, missions and twinning partnerships with colleagues in low-income and lower-middle-income countries.

He also serves on the Board of the Global Neuro Foundation and the EANS Foundation. His main research interests include outcome studies in clinical neurosurgery, particularly complex spinal surgery, as well as neurotraumatology, trigeminal neuralgia, and the history of neuroscience.
