Adam Peckham-Cooper

Director of Emergency General Surgery, Clinical Lead and Consultant General Surgeon, Associate of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Mr Adam Peckham‑Cooper is a consultant emergency general surgeon and Lead Clinician for the Leeds Institute of Emergency General Surgery in Leeds.

Adam’s clinical focus is the acute management of complex biliary disease, hernias and major acute and emergency abdominal surgical presentations. He is the Director of Emergency General Surgery for the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, and a national leader in this field.

He is passionate about delivering sustainable healthcare, particularly decarbonising surgical procedures and surgical care pathways. He led a Leeds‑based team to victory in a national competition co‑hosted by the Centre for Sustainable Health and the Royal College of Surgeons of England, with a project focused on delivering net‑zero laparoscopic appendicectomy surgery. He is a sustainability champion at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and has subsequently spoken globally on the subject.

He works closely with NHSE, DHSC and other stakeholders, co‑leading the sustainability theme for the NIHR Healthtech Research Centre in Accelerated Surgical Care. In line with this work, he is launching the new SUSTAIN high‑fidelity simulated theatre lab at LGI later this year, which will focus on carbon reduction and net‑zero research in surgery.
