
Professor Vivien Lees

Consultant Plastic Surgeon Professor Vivien Lees is Professor of Plastic Surgery at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester. She specializes in hand surgery, including wrist and rheumatoid hand surgery. Her research interests include functional anatomy and peripheral nerve injury, topics on which she delivered the Hunterian Oration in 2010.
Professor Lees was elected to the College Council in 2014, and re-elected in 2020. She was elected by the Council as a Trustee in 2020 and Vice President from 2023. She is a former President of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH).
She has significantly contributed to surgical education, leading the development of the Postgraduate Diploma and MSc in Hand Surgery and the modular Plastic Surgery Curriculum. On Council, she has championed initiatives like Emerging Leaders, SAFE OR, and cosmetic certification programmes.
Professor Lees is highly committed to patient safety, engaging all members of the College, and ensuring a sustainable future for surgery. Her leisure interests include pottery, fell walking, and lake swimming.
