Sreelakshmi Mallappa

Deputy Chair of RCS England Women in Surgery Forum, Co-Lead of RCS England 'Back to the Scalpel' Programme, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust.

Sree Mallappa is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, where she is Lead for IBD surgery. A passionate advocate for equity in surgery, she is committed to building a culture where surgeons feel supported, valued and empowered to thrive, whatever their background.

Sree is Deputy Chair of the RCS England Women in Surgery (WinS) Forum and an RCS England Emerging Leader. She is Chair and Mentorship Lead of the ACPGBI Early Years Consultant Network Committee, and an elected member of the ACPGBI (2021–2024) and ASGBI Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committees. In her EDI work, she has led international surveys exploring diversity bias in colorectal surgery.

As co-lead of the RCS England WinS Back to the Scalpel programme, Sree and her team support surgeons returning to clinical practice after a career break. The programme provides a structured, supportive framework during one of surgery’s most significant transitions.

She believes that strong mentorship, accessible training and clear career support frameworks are essential to a more equitable profession. This commitment also shapes her grassroots work through WinSpire surgical skills workshops in local schools — an RCS England WinS initiative designed to inspire and encourage young people to consider a future career in surgery.
