
Prakash Punjabi

Dr Prakash P. Punjabi is a Professor at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, and a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, based at Hammersmith Hospital in London, UK. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of “PERFUSION” and is the Training Program Director for the UK’s largest Cardiothoracic Surgery National Training Programme, based in London. He is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FFST Ed).
Professor Punjabi is current President of the Cardiothoracic Section of the Royal Society of Medicine and is also Surgical Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Additionally, he holds the role of Head of Student Conduct for Phases 1 and 2 of the MBBS programme at Imperial College School of Medicine.
He is Principal Investigator on multiple clinical trials and supervises PhD, MD, and MSc students in translational cardiovascular science. He actively contributes to a range of national and international committees focused on surgical research and the development of clinical guidelines.
He is President of the Friends of Hammersmith Hospital Charity and takes part in surgical and educational missions in countries like India, Egypt, Ethiopia, Lithuania, and Kazakhstan, holding visiting professorships at various international institutions.
Professor Punjabi has served on the Specialist Advisory Council for Cardiothoracic Surgery at the General Medical Council, was a Trustee of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, editing the SAC/SCTS Workforce Report. He is a former President of the European Valve Repair Group and has held roles in working groups of the European Society of Cardiology.
