Inna Sokolova
Clinical Director for Gynaecology and Consultant Gynaecological and Robotic Surgeon, NHS Ayrshire & Arran
Dr Inna Sokolova is a consultant gynaecologist, robotic surgeon and clinical director for gynaecology at NHS Ayrshire & Arran. She leads work to expand the use of robotic‑assisted surgery in gynaecology, pushing the boundaries of access and complexity.
Her work addresses the long‑standing imbalance in surgical innovation, where advances in robotics have often focused on male‑dominated specialties. Dr Sokolova has shown that robotics can improve outcomes in women’s health when used as part of redesigned pathways, teams and models of care. She has developed one of the UK’s most advanced same‑day major gynaecological surgery programmes, enabling complex procedures to be delivered safely with rapid recovery and improved system efficiency.
Under her leadership, more than 95% of women undergoing robotic hysterectomy are discharged home within hours, with no conversions to open surgery. This demonstrates how precision technology can support both patient experience and operational performance.
As one patient said: “I had major surgery in the morning and was home in time for the school run.”
A national trainer, preceptor and policy contributor, Dr Sokolova is driven by a clear aim: to ensure women benefit fully and equitably from the future of surgery.
