Celia Theodoreli-Riga

Consultant Vascular Surgeon, Clinical Senior Lecturer in Surgery and Head of School of Surgery, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

Miss Riga is the Head of the UK’s largest Postgraduate School of Surgery. She served as the Vascular STC Chair and TPD for London. She is a full-time NHS Consultant with a tertiary referral practice for complex aortic disease. She has served on the UKRI/EPSRC Healthcare Technologies Strategic Advisory Board. She currently sits on the Court of Examiners for the FRCS (Vasc). She was one of the first clinicians to introduce team training and innovative simulation programmes to surgical practice. She led the UK's largest C-19 Recovery Skill Programme and received the 2022 HEE National Innovation Award for sustainable postgraduate medical education. She is a keen advocate for quality in surgical education and remains committed to applying principles of safety towards the development of high-performing surgical teams.


She has an international reputation as a speaker with over 300 presentations, over 100 peer-reviewed publications and acts as a Reviewer for 11 Journals. She has significant experience in Medtech, engineering and clinical translation. She performed the world’s first robot-assisted endovascular aneurysm repairs. Her research has won 30 national and international prizes, attracting over £10million in funding including a UK flagship EPSRC investment to make Imperial the UK's largest translational Micro-Robotics facility.
